As a marketer, I’m continuously seeking ways to understand the target audiences my team is trying to reach. While it’s not the only window, Twitter gives me a unique perspective into the everyday lives of IT professionals. I’m not an expert on the who’s who of the top IT professionals on Twitter, but I do have a short list of the people who have caught my attention. Tweets about the technical aspects of IT are mostly lost on me, so I give bonus points for personality, humor, entertainment and general IT knowledge.
Amy Renee (@amyengineer)

It’s always good to have someone with a nice sense of humor in your Twitter feed and Amy certainly qualifies. She’s very adept and finding great content to share. See above for an example of one of her posts (I hope her husband is still alive).
Sean Thulin (@sthulin)

At SpiceWorld in Austin last year, Sean had one of my favorite Tweets of all time. He captured one of our product managers in an epic dance off while dressed as C3PO. When times are dark, I watch it and realize things will be okay.
Bill Shields (@HighTechBill)

A regular Cisco Live! speaker, Bill has Duck-a-Corn and we have Devil Duck. They get along really well and often attend the same events.
Matt Vogt (@mattvogt)

IT pros do have real, often interesting lives. This IT pro went on an epic trip to Thailand and took a great picture! Matt’s tweets about IT are more accessible than most and he has his own blog as well.
SQL Server (@sadserver)

SQL isn’t an IT professional, but there must be one behind it. If servers could talk, I’m pretty sure they’d sound like this very sad one.
I’m still trying to figure out what Twitter is all about, but I encourage you to check out these accounts. You’re more than welcome to follow me as I stumble through it as well at @eljefe83.
